What are in-kind donations?

When individuals and organizations donate goods or services, those donations are considered gifts-in-kind. Birds of Paradise accepts in-kind gifts like building materials, fencing, cages, lawn equipment, fresh fruits and vegetables, bird food, toys, perches, large bird cages and more.

One of our most valued gifts-in-kind are the materials used to build aviaries and flight cages. BOPS has stringent guidelines for building safe and secure enclosures and each one requires concrete, fencing, misting sprinklers, shade and shelter cloths, multiple perches, etc. With the average enclosure consisting of 700 square feet, these numbers add up fast—so donations of these types of materials from corporate manufacturers are welcome!

Additionally, in some cases, individuals and corporations donate toys, perches and food items, including fresh fruits and vegetables, bird food and other tasty treats for the parrots, such as nuts in the shell.

All in gifts-in-kind are tax deductible as law permits and we have become experts in creativity and enjoy working with corporations and individuals who want to donate any of these types of items.
