Birds of Paradise can always use in-kind gifts like building materials, fencing, cages, lawn equipment, fresh fruits and vegetables, bird food, toys, perches and large bird cages. One of our most valued in-kind gifts are the materials used to build aviaries and flight cages. BOPS has stringent guidelines for building safe and secure enclosures and each one requires concrete, fencing, misting sprinklers, shade and shelter cloths, multiple perches, etc. With the average enclosure consisting of 700 square feet, these numbers add up fast—so donations of these types of materials from corporate manufacturers are very appreciated!

Additionally, in some cases, corporations donate toys, perches and food items, including fresh fruits and vegetables, bird food and other tasty treats for the parrots, such as nuts in the shell. All in gifts-in-kind are tax deductible as law permits and we have become experts in creativity and enjoy working with corporations who want to donate any of these types of items.

By becoming a Birds of Paradise Emergency Parrot Rescue Partner (an EPRP), your company will help provide the reliable funding base necessary for BOPS to respond swiftly and effectively to abused and abandoned parrots across the country.

The initial rescue operation one-time expenses include veterinary exams & emergency care, travel and temporary cages. But that’s just the beginning. Rescued parrots often have special needs, including a range of physical handicaps or other challenges requiring unique living or feeding arrangements—and this creates an operating overhead of $1,200 a year per parrot as our standards of care includes a nutritionally balanced diet, housing, medical care, perches and toys.

Birds of Paradise Sanctuary is a rescue, retirement, and adoption facility for exotic birds where we provide a safe, stable and loving home for each of our parrots. For some of them, our sanctuary is a temporary home until they find a constant companion through our adoption program. For others that are traumatized, fearful of humans and/or temperamentally unsuited for companionship with people, it is a permanent home. Our Parrot Pals Sponsorship program is for these birds and allows us to provide them with the love, respect and dignity they deserve in a stable home for the duration of their natural lives.
